Randall Payton
Randall Payton, frontman of venerable Portland, Oregon outfit Chez Stadium, can’t stop
rewriting his setlist of eccentric folk-pop compositions.
Challenging to label, his infectious, lyric-driven songs draw from Britpop, thirdhand blues,
early rock and soul, pensive SoCal acoustics.... Matching wit to wordplay, sourcing arcane
and divergent styles, he takes an odd pride in never truly finding his voice.
Sporting comparisons to troubadors such as Warren Zevon, Richard Thompson,
Grandpaboy, and GBV, Payton’s various projects have shared the stage with luminary acts
like Centro-matic, Clem Snide, Quasi, Hazel, The Long Winters, and actor/director John
Cameron Mitchell.
Chez Stadium has released four collections of original material. More recently, his band
contributed to Hope of the Hour - A Tribute to Portland’s Dharma Bums.
