Join renowned artists Joshua Josué and Edna Vazquez for an unforgettable night of music celebrating Chicano de Mayo on May 1st at the Mission Theater. The event will feature a special guest opening performance by Delgado y Los Conejos de Amor.
This event marks the first time in over a decade that Joshua Josué and Edna Vazquez have shared the stage together.
Joshua Josué, who began his career in the heart of Los Angeles Chicano Rock, has since carved out a notable presence across the Pacific Northwest and Jalisco, Mexico. His original music, celebrated for its powerful storytelling, has captivated audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest and Jalisco, Mexico. Joshua's highly anticipated debut solo album, set for release this summer on Electric CholoLand Records, was recorded with members of The Chris Isaak Band, Los Lobos, and Dwight Yoakam’s Band.
Edna Vazquez, known for her ability to seamlessly blend alternative rock, folk, pop, and R&B, delivers a message of light, love, and cultural healing through her music. In addition to her music career, Edna is dedicated to empowering youth and the community through educational projects with organizations like the Bravo Youth Orchestras, Young Audiences, and The Lullaby Project by Carnegie Hall. Having performed at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, SFJAZZ, and The Kennedy Center, Edna's musical journey has earned her recognition, including the Most Influential Latina Award in 2019. She currently tours with the renowned Pink Martini as a featured guest vocalist, with her vocals featured on the band’s 2019 album Bésame Mucho.
The night will kick off with New Mexico native Delgado y Los Conejos de Amor, Delgado has been described as “Dark Desert Swoon.” With his haunting, dusky vocals and a sound drenched in reverb and mesquite smoke, the band’s music evokes the expansive beauty and gritty mystique of the desert, captivating listeners with its mesmerizing, otherworldly sound.
Chicano de Mayo, founded by Joshua Josué, is an annual event dedicated to celebrating the vibrant music, art, and culture of Latinos in the United States. The event highlights and honors the rich diversity within the Chicano and broader Latino communities, showcasing the unique cultural expressions that shape and define their identity in the U.S.
