OMSI Science Pub: Tails Talk: Canine and Feline Communication

With Liz Everling, animal behavioralist and lead of Whisker Welfare.

Do you know why your dog lifts their paw? Did you know that your cat's whiskers are multi-purposed? Understanding canine and feline body language is the first step in a more harmonious relationship with your pet. When we understand what our dogs and cats are saying with their bodies, we can help them more comfortably navigate our human world, prevent unwanted behavior, and connect with them more deeply. Join us to learn more about your best friend's very unique language and who they are as an individual.

Liz Everling has spent the last 15 years working alongside Animal Welfare professionals and pioneers in the field, most recently in shelter work developing and leading innovative and progressive behavior programming for community pets. After studying biology, ethology and applied animal behavior in college, Liz gained valuable career experience in veterinary medicine, exotic animal sanctuaries, Accredited American Zoos, and Humane Society Animal Shelters. During this time she frequently noted common questions and concerns coming from pet parents in the community. Based on years of experience and research with colleagues in the field, Liz decided to launch her own Companion Animal Education platform: Whisker Welfare.

Whisker Welfare believes that many incompatible dog and cat behaviors can be better understood, met with compassion, better managed and prevented. Our global population of whiskered companions are becoming behaviorally more complex, and there are plenty of reasons for it! Join Liz, and Whisker Welfare in an effort to help people of all ages meet the needs of our dogs and cats, one whisker at a time!
