Mark Hurwitz and Gin Creek
Blues/Jazz
Mark
Hurwitz and Gin Creek is a two-time nominee for Best Band by the Washington
Blues Society, and leader Mark Hurwitz has twice been nominated for Best
Keyboard. They play jump blues, r&b, soul, and roots
rock, all with a strong rhythmic drive that keeps dance floors packed. The band
maintains a busy schedule of club dates around Washington State, and has
performed at many major festivals and events, including Bite of Seattle,
Northwest Folklife, The Gorge Blues and Brews Festival, and the Sunbanks
Festival. They gained a widespread following as the house band at Seattle's
legendary New Orleans Creole Restaurant following Seahawks home games at nearby
Century Link field during the team's Super Bowl and NFC Championship seasons.
The band’s sound is
built around rocking piano, wailing sax, and multiple dynamic vocalists. The
piano playing of Mark Hurwitz displays multiple influences, from classic blues
and boogie pianists like Amos Milburn and Pinetop Perkins to Leon Russell and
Jerry Lee Lewis. This will be their sixth show at The Spanish Ballroom.
