Cowboy Angels / X Angels Reunion Show
Portland's legendary band 'Cowboy Angels' was co-founded in
1974 by singer- songwriters, Tom McGriff and John Bunzow. Playing all the
popular clubs of the day the Angels built a substantial following that
continued to grow all through the seventies. The band took a hiatus in
the 1980's as McGriff pursued musical opportunities in Los Angeles and Bunzow
in Nashville. The band reformed when McGriff returned to Portland in the
early 1990s and became known as 'X-Angels', focusing on a harder edged sound
and original songs, the band quickly recovered their popularity. Playing
live clubs and releasing several albums over the next few years they received
high critical acclaim as well as airplay on Portland's 'KINK' radio. Though the
band's alignment changed a bit over time, a typical line up would include (in
addition to McGriff), 2 time Oregon Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Rich Gooch on
bass, highly touted Tom Royer on drums, as well as noted guitarists Steve James
Wright, Mark Spangler and Bunzow. Many more of the most talented
musicians of the Northwest have also been involved over the years, some of whom
will be on hand for this year's 2024 reunion. Be sure not to miss this as the
band reunites to perform at the iconic White Eagle, Friday June 28th and
Saturday June 29th at 7:30pm.
