Built on the site of one of the area's World War II-era shipyards — a hornets' nest of war-time activity back in the 1940s — this was McMenamins' first brewpub in Washington State. Following in the city of Vancouver's long brewing tradition, which started in the mid-1850s with the Vancouver Brewery (where Henry Weinhard got his start in the Northwest), McMenamins on the Columbia serves up a selection of brews ideal for sipping on the brewpub's deck overlooking the mighty Columbia River.
Jesse Grover is currently guiding the brewer's paddle in Vancouver, and rotates through a fine variety of India Pale Ales, stouts, porters and bitters in addition to company standards and seasonals. Jesse also serves as brewery host for the annual IPA Invasion held each October -- a feast of the senses for all hop aficionados.
