Join us this Veteran's Day as military historian Alisha Hamel presents stories from Oregon's World War II veterans, who shared their personal histories in a series of interviews collected for her book, When Duty Called: An Oral History of Oregon's World War II Veterans.

These stories cover some of the most well-known events of the war, including Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March, D-Day, and the last bombing raid over Japan. These veterans expressed how they wanted their stories remembered not for themselves, but for their buddies who did not make it home and for their families to understand the role they played in World War II.

Alisha Hamel has worked in military history for over 20 years. She holds a master's degree in military history with a specialization in World War II and her thesis on Australian-American relations. Alisha co-authored the book, Oregon Military History, for Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series, and directed the documentary, The Jungleers in Battle: The 41st Infantry Division of WWII. She is also a veteran and served in Desert Storm.
