About Watkins in the Grove: A Celebration of the legendary 1973 Watkins Glen Concert

Watkins in the Grove: A Celebration of the legendary 1973 Watkins Glen Concert

It ranks among the epic stories in rock festival history... In the summer of 1973, over 600,000 people descended on Watkins Glen Grand Prix Raceway for a record-decimating, once-in-a-lifetime performance featuring the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers and The Band. From the Dead's two-hour long soundcheck-turned-jam-sesh to the miles of gridlock surrounding the venue to the epic group encore, it's no wonder The Summer Jam at Watkins Glen is regarded as legend.

Join us as we celebrate this legendary concert from the golden age of jam bands with performances from Garcia Birthday Band (Grateful Dead tribute), One Way Out (Allman Brothers tribute) and Chest Fever (The Band tribute) featuring members of The Next Waltz.

SCHEDULE

5-5:45pm * Chest Fever
6-7:15pm * One Way Out
7:30-9pm * Garcia Birthday Band

About Garcia Birthday Band (Grateful Dead tribute)

Good ol' Grateful Dead

Garcia Birthday Band (Grateful Dead tribute)

Garcia Birthday Band, based in Portland Oregon, isn't your mother's Grateful Dead cover band. Playing for over 20 years, GBB has evolved into something far deeper than the sum of its parts. The beating heart of the Pacific Northwest's GD community, the band's ever-expanding fanbase is an experience unto themselves. Using the Dead's repertoire as a springboard for limitless potential and improvisation, Garcia Birthday Band are a cornerstone of the modern Grateful Dead universe, and their fans have come to expect the unexpected as the norm.

Placing no boundaries on eras of the Dead's career or catalogue, and drawing on decades of individual and shared experience, GBB play the music through an auditory kaleidoscope. Composed of some of the most ace players of the Oregon live music community, the band makes every show an act of exploration, both musically and spiritually. United hearts and minds blur the line between the stage and crowd - a carnival of human potential. If you're new to Garcia Birthday Band, their doors are always open, and you'll recognize it as something familiar when you first walk in: a place called home.
