James Coates blends elements of country, folk and soul to create a sonic tapestry that harkens back to the golden age of songwriting. The Pacific Northwest songwriter has been compared to artists like Chris Stapleton and Wilco, while influences include Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. "Coates sounds like Bob Dylan would if Dylan could actually sing," writes Seattle Weekly, "while lyrically he veers closer to Springsteen territory."
