About Chapel Pub

You'll make a vow to return again and again...

Large Groups Welcome
We are happy to host all kinds of gatherings, from birthday dinners to holiday celebrations, and we have just what you need for large groups. Just give us a call!

McMenamins Headquarters offices are housed upstairs, but the lower level of The Chapel is all pub, serving McMenamins favorites! Formerly the Little Chapel of the Chimes in the heart of North Portland’s Piedmont neighborhood, it’s just a hop & skip away from Peninsula Park Rose Garden, Alberta Arts District and PCC Cascade. Built in the 1930s as a funeral home, the owners quickly expanded services to include weddings and organ or chimes concerts. In fact, for a time they even broadcast organ concerts into the neighborhood through a rooftop PA system!

Pause on the patio for a pint, step inside to take a seat at the mahogany bar, or cozy up next to the crackling fireplace or Round Oak wood stove. Outdoors at the Chapel you can settle in on one of the foliage-ensconced patios, where you’ll find fire pits, lanterns and a place to relax and imbibe with your pup at your feet.

History, art and craftsmanship are abundant in the renovated space; original work intertwines with new additions. Take a closer look at the intricate ironwork throughout the property, fashioned by talented craftsman O.B. Dawson in the early 1930s. Look familiar? Dawson's work is also showcased at Timberline Lodge, the University of Oregon and Oregon State.

Look up and you’ll see the pub’s central chandelier and wall sconces; all original to the building, they were fabricated in 1932 by Fred Baker, who like Dawson, went on to do work at Timberline Lodge. The eponymous chimes were installed as a novelty around 1939. Both the chimes and the organ that spent its first life in a vaudeville theater were refurbished as part of McMenamins’ renovations.

The front door leads to a pocket-sized gift shop alongside Headquarters Reception, where you’ll find McMenamins t-shirts and merchandise; open Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Chapel Pub allows leashed pets outside on the patio areas.
