About Summer of the Shark: Grand Finale and Shark Dissection

Summer of the Shark: Grand Finale and Shark Dissection

Yes, you read that correctly! Join us at the Bagdad Theater for a presentation and in-person dissection of a shark, courtesy of Oregon State University's Big Fish Lab. The Summer of the Shark series was designed to bring sharks and shark science to communities throughout Oregon, and they're bringing the grand finale presentation to the Bagdad Theater.

Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to meet Oregon's shark scientists and learn about the important work they do. And we'll be projecting the dissection onto the theater screen, so you don't miss out on any of the details. And just in case you're wondering, don't worry: the shark died of natural causes!

There will be food, drinks, trivia, merchandise for sale and good vibes all around. Plus, a portion of proceeds will go to directly supporting research and students at the Big Fish Lab. We recommend making an evening of it! Bring a date with you to Bagdad for an early dinner and then head to the theater to learn everything you've ever wanted to know about sharks - the perfect way to celebrate Shark Week and a pretty cool date idea, in our opinion.

About OSU's Big Fish Lab

Haven't heard of the Big Fish Lab? We are a research group located in Newport, at OSU's Hatfield Marine Science Center. Though we were originally established to fill a gap in our understanding of sharks in Oregon waters, our work also takes us globally - to Ireland, the Maldives, Mexico, South Africa, and more. Our scientists study a variety of topics, from shark moms to shark diet to learning about how sharks will respond to climate change and even how frequently sharks eat plastic. Our work has been featured on both local news and national and international television, including Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and BBC. To learn more about us, check us out here and follow us on social media @big_fish_lab and @sulikowskilab. Feel free to email inquiries about the Summer of the Shark series specifically to Dr. Alexandra (Alex) McInturf.
