Happy Hour Music Returns
Bingo & Friends
as part of the Crystal Centennial Celebration
- Crystal Hotel & Ballroom - Ringlers Pub |
- Saturday, January 28
- 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. |
- Free |
- All ages welcome
Harken, ye Crystal veterans, to the proud era when Ringlers Pub hosted some truly rollicking happy hour shows, notably its "Rock 'N Roll Lunches" with Billy Kennedy & Friends, as well as our Sunday afternoon jams with a start-up old-time concoction that would in time become known to the world as Foghorn Stringband.
Now we're thrilled to set the stage for yet another foot-stomper of a series, led by Bingo, that well-loved musical magician who has played pretty much all of McMenamins' stages at one time or the other. He and his compatriots will bring three hours of toe-tapping, merry-making and out-and-out rug-cutting to Ringlers every Saturday afternoon.
Mix that with awesome food and drink specials, and follow it up with a trip across the street to Al's Den for more music at 7pm, and you've had yourself a real good time before most music in town has even hit the stage! End it all with a Crystal concert (remember that any food or beverage purchase gets you early admission), and it'll be one for the ages.
About Bingo & Friends
Bingo is not trying to sell you anything. He has nothing to prove and there is nobody that he wishes to alienate. He plays music because making something beautiful to leave behind for future generations is the only reason he can find to joyfully remain as a member of such an otherwise embarrassing species. His music achieves different ends for different listeners; some dance, some sing along, some find some kind of comfort in the stories that he unravels. His fans are from all walks of life and all age groups.
Bingo plays original music, and various obscure covers and traditionals in an intuitive style that is informed by a vast array of influences: Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, Psychedelic, Trance, Gospel and Bluegrass - basically, everything that he has ever heard or seen that has effected him. The mix is highly potent and always unique. Coming from the Holy Modal Rounders, Golden Delicious, and Freak Mountain Ramblers; Bingo is a true original and a national treasure that embodies the lineage of American folk music.
Bingo has a voice that is real and haunting and sounds like nobody else. Comparisons are inevitable, though, in this day and age and so there have been some names mentioned in attempts at description: John Lennon, JJ Cale, Randy Newman, Jerry Garcia, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams.
No Depression has called Bingo's live show "Jaw Dropping."
Other writers have tried to categorize his music as "Transcendental Americana" or "Tenderly Psychedelic Folk." You can call it whatever you want. If you are tired of music made by cookie cutters and people that are trying too hard to "make it," listen to Bingo ... he's convinced that there's nothing left to make but music.
