About Portland Opera to Go: Hansel & Gretel
Join us for this lively 50-minute, English-language adaptation of Engelbert Humperdinck's early 1890s classic fairytale opera, Hansel and Gretel. This colorful, accessible production is just right to introduce the kids in your life (or yourself?) to the world of opera.
She was tired – an overworked mother who couldn't manage to feed her children. Perhaps it was understandable when she lost her temper after her children misbehaved...but she never imagined when she sent them into the forest to gather berries for supper what lurked under the sun-dappled trees. Hansel and Gretel were about to experience the greatest adventure of their lives--and face their greatest nightmare, a Witch with a taste for roasting children!
