This World Malaria Day, stand in solidarity with those all over the world who suffer from malaria! FaithsAct Portland, a group of young interfaith leaders who are inspired by their respective faith traditions to take action against injustice, is proud to announce that David Bazan will headline at a benefit concert to raise awareness and funds to eradicate malaria. The show will be opened by Seattleite Shannon Stephens and Portland's Matthew Haussler.
Notes for Nets is a joint venture of college student groups, faith communities, domestic and international NGOs, local businesses, corporations, and musicians from all over the Northwest. Each of these players is coming together to be a part of something they could never accomplish alone: a global partnership to eradicate malaria. All proceeds of this benefit concert will be given to help Project Muso Ladamunen (Project for the Empowered Woman) provide life-saving bed nets and comprehensive health care to fight malaria, which kills one in five children in Yirimadjo, Mali.
Katie Myers, a Christian, and Erin Toolis, a Buddhist, are young ambassadors for the Millennium Development Goals and interfaith cooperation. They are part of the FaithsAct Fellowship program which has been launched by The Tony Blair Faith Foundation in association with The Interfaith Youth Core, based in Chicago. They are hosted by the Micah Challenge US, a Christian campaign to eradicate extreme poverty.
FaithsAct Portland engages in common action for the common good through regular service projects and interfaith dialogues. It works to connect faith communities in Portland with local opportunities to serve and to the global effort to end deaths due to malaria - a preventable disease which takes the lives of one million people each year. Join with us to support Project Muso and to work toward a malaria-free world!
