The Dandy Warhols 30th Anniversary

The Dandy Warhols 30th Anniversary

With three decades of Rock Making behind them, The Dandy Warhols are still awing audiences across the globe.
McMenamins is proud to host an electrifying five-day, multi-venue celebration of their 30th Anniversary. Including two full length concerts in Portland's Crystal Ballroom and Tacoma's Spanish Ballroom. The festivities kick off with a Little Cloud label showcase at the Mission Theater on Dec 11. Make sure you catch Sun Atoms featuring Dandys' own Peter Holmstrom. Dying to see where the band rehearses and records? Make sure you get tickets to their VIP event at The Odditorium Friday, Dec 13th. Don't party too hard though because there's a short trip north to Tacoma, Wa for the concert at the Spanish Ballroom and why not squeeze every last drop out of this week with a finale Sunday brunch with the band?

Not sure how to get from Portland to Tacoma? That's OK! Go by train! That's right, there's an easy ride on the Amtrak. Most, if not all, of the band members will be going by train and you should too. The more of us the merrier and the more likely we'll be able to get a car or few all to ourselves. Sing along anyone?? Keep an eye on The Dandys social for updates regarding which train to grab tickets for.

LSD & The Search For God

LSD & The Search For God

LSD and the Search for God hit the Northern California coast in 2005--seemingly from another place and time--dosing San Francisco with hypnotic shows built upon swirling guitars, otherworldly drones, fuzzed-out pop melodies, and dreamy vocal harmonies.

With reviews of early shows and recordings drawing comparisons to My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Yo La Tengo, Spacemen 3, and Sonic Youth, the band quickly developed a must-see reputation within the underground psychedelic music scene.

When LSD finally released their self-titled debut EP (Mind Expansion Records, 2007) it sold out from the record label prior to the official release date. It earned critical acclaim and continues to frequently appear on lists of essential shoegaze releases. The EP was twice reissued on vinyl (Deep Space Recordings, 2008, 2015), twice on cassette (Cellar Door Tapes, 2015), and selected tracks were featured on three compilations: Mind Expansion Vol. 1, M.E. Vol. 2, and Australian nugazer compilation Take Me on the Wildest Spree (Rubber Records/EMI, 2008).

LSD's most recent release, Heaven Is a Place (Space Age Recordings, 2016), captures a snapshot in time soon after Ricky Maymi (Brian Jonestown Massacre) temporarily joined the band on drums. Like the self-titled EP, it garnered critical acclaim and frequented many Best Of lists. Pop Matters calls it, "a long-awaited sermon for the faithful and a blazing induction for new converts," while Primal Music says it's "another astonishing collection of five psychedelic stories glistening with the same spaced out ingredients that blew my mind way back in 2007."

LSD's time and space travels have led them all over the U.S., Canada, and Europe, including tours with Martin Rev (Suicide), Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3), and The Telescopes, as well as appearances at Levitation--Austin Psych Fest, SoCal's Desert Daze, Manchester's Cosmosis Festival (with The Jesus and Mary Chain), Bathysphere (with A Place To Bury Strangers), twice at Desert Stars (first with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, then The Dandy Warhols), Calgary's Garbage Daze, and Portugal's Reverence Valada (with The Damned, The Oh Sees, and Silver Apples).

A new record is currently in the works.

Sun Atoms (Featuring Peter Holmstrom from The Dandy Warhols)

Sun Atoms (Featuring Peter Holmstrom from The Dandy Warhols)

In a whirlwind of sonic serendipity, Portland psychedelic gaze-wave outfit Sun Atoms presents their new single 'Take This Love', a sonic odyssey that transports listeners to a realm of pure musical enchantment. The fun continues in the clever sci-fi video, created by Bradley Tuazon at Oregon's world-famous Airplane Home. On July 26, this 2-track single will be released via Little Cloud Records digitally and on 7" vinyl, previewing Sun Atoms' sophomore album.

Sun Atoms is made up of producer/bassist Peter G. Holmström (The Dandy Warhols, Pete International Airport), vocalist Jsun Atoms (The Upsidedown, Daydream Machine), multi-instrumentalist June Kang, Mars de Ponte (LoveBomb Go-Go), L.A. drummer Eric Rubalcava and Boise native Derek Spencer Longoria-Gomez (Hi Hazel).

Mixed by iconic producer Jagz Kooner (Massive Attack, Primal Scream, Oasis, Garbage) and mastered by Keith Tenniswood (Spiritualized, Death In Vegas), 'Take This Love' stands as a testament to Sun Atoms' commitment to musical innovation and creativity with Jsun Atoms delving into introspective realms, while pondering the "hieroglyphs in bright lights" illuminated by the desert stars. Its lyrical crowning blow lies in the line "take this love and shove it up your heart".

Earlier this year, Sun Atoms released their 'Ceiling Tiles' single on 7-inch vinyl, featuring the new wave-inspired single 'Ceiling Tiles' and the charismatic B-side (a unique fuzzed-out tribute to Leonard Cohen) called 'Tower of Song (in the key of JAMC)'. They also played a series of sold-out concerts with Dinosaur Jr. and shows with Federale, The Veldt and TREMOURS, in addition to playing Seagaze Festival and Treefort Festival, where they shared the stage with Ty Segall, A Place To Bury Strangers, Neko Case and Built To Spill.

The band debuted in 2021 with the album 'Let There Be Light', produced by Peter G. Holmström and mixed by iconic producer Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths, The Cranberries), which involving contributions by The Black Angels' Alex Maas, The Vandelles' Jasno Swarez and Gregg Williams (Sheryl Crow, Blitzen Trapper). Since then, Sun Atoms has also played shows with Modest Mouse, Fishbone, Besnard Lakes, The Veldt and New Candys, and has shared the stage with the Allah Las, Broncho and Night Beats.

Tremours

Tremours

TREMOURS formed in Los Angeles in 2021 by the duo of Lauren Andino and Glenn Fryatt. Late night jam sessions in the midst of lockdown uncertainty slowly transformed into TREMOURS creative partnership, driven by the tension between Andino's hazy, drifting guitars and Fryatt's urgent, pulsating drums.

South Carolina-born Andino has played with LSD And The Search For God and most recently L.A. Witch as a touring guitarist. Fryatt hails from Portsmouth, England, and has toured as a drummer for artists such as Cherubs, The Montrose Avenue and Ten Benson.

TREMOURS sees them each newly harnessing and exploring their own creative impulses, inspired by everything from shoegaze to jazz to electronica to literature to looking out at the sea. "Most of our songs center around loneliness. Not necessarily sadness, but the comfort that you can find in being lonely," says Andino. "It's when I feel most calm."

On the back of their 2023 Little Cloud Records EP Affectations, TREMOURS have undertaken three full US tours and garnered a following across North America and Europe. TREMOURS have also headlined Canada's Cherry Cult Fest and have a full-length album and a host of tour dates slated for later in 2024, along with their first UK tour.

"Live, we have been told that it can be intense," Fryatt says. "I have no choice but to let go and trust Glenn when we are playing. This is the only band where I've had to do that, and I think that's where our intense stage dynamic comes from -- focusing and trusting one another," Andino adds.

About Mission Theater

Frequently Asked Questions

I have questions about your box office and ticketing … where do I find that info?
Scroll up and check out our Box Office info! If you can’t find the information you’re looking for, you might find your answer below, and if not then feel free to shoot us an email.

What seating is available?
The Mission Theater specializes in open-floor shows, but also has a mezzanine on three sides with seating throughout. Occasionally the main floor will feature seating as well, and we will indicate this by referring to the event as a “seated event.”

The mezzanine sounds cool! Can I reserve seats there?
No, our seats are all first-come, first-served.

I don’t like to buy tickets online; where can I buy in person at the Mission?
The Mission does not have its own outlet, but tickets for Mission shows (and any McMenamins music events) are available at the location described above in the Box Office section.

Help, I can’t find my tickets! Can you resend/email them to me?
Even better, just go to www.etix.com/ticket/resend and provide your email address as well as the last 4 digits of the card used for purchase. A ticket confirmation will be sent to you.

I have a printed at home ticket … can you just scan the original email from my phone?
We’re able to scan ticket barcodes from most phones…. Make sure your brightness is turned up for best results! If that doesn’t work we will be able to enter your ticket’s order number into the system and get you into the show that way.

I can’t make the show; can I get a refund?
We are not able to offer refunds. If you opted to purchase insurance through our ticketing company as part of your ticket purchase, you should have received an email from Allianz Global  Assistance and you can file a claim with them directly. You are also welcome to sell your tickets.

Someone sold two tickets to me for tomorrow's show. When I arrive at the venue, will there be any issues since I wasn't the original buyer?
We are unable to determine the validity of third party tickets. Also, a ticket may be scanned only once for entry. If your ticket was purchased from someone who sold the tickets to multiple parties, only the first person who shows up will be granted entry.

Are there still tickets / VIP tickets to a show?
You can check this by finding the show on the Mission Theater online calendar and clicking the ticket link, where availability information will be displayed.

I couldn’t get a ticket for a sold-out show. Is there any way I can get one?
The best we can say is that sometimes the artist or promoter will release some tickets that they’ve been holding onto. We can’t predict, however, if or when that might happen.

How do you accommodate for ADA?
For ADA accommodations please contact us by email. Please note we are only able to accommodate until the ADA section is at capacity.

I understand there are stairs leading into the Mission’s main floor. Do you have accessibility options?
Yes, we are wheelchair accessible. We have a ramp leading to our side entrance on 17th Avenue; just let security at the front door know you need ramp access.

Can I bring my camera to a show?
While we don’t have specific house policy, we do enforce the band’s policies, and we don’t typically know those policies until the day of the show. Usually only phones or small handheld cameras are allowed, but all attendees are subject to the stipulations from the band. Professional camera gear is almost never permitted.

Are Light Gloves allowed?
Yes.

 Is there a coat check?
There is no coat check at the Mission Theater.

What’s your re-entry policy?
Due to a variety of factors in play for each performance, re-entry policy is determined on the day of the show, and we can’t guarantee that re-entry will be permitted. Please see our House Rules (above) for additional important entry-based information.

I’m interested in performing at your venue; who can I contact?
You can email booking@mcmenamins.com.

I want to work at the Mission Theater!
We want to hear from you! Please check out our employment page and apply there!

I want to hold a private event in that glorious space!
Please visit our private event page for details! We have a dedicated staffer that can help with weddings, meetings, parties, you name it!

What is the venue capacity?
300 standing, 200 seated

Do you have air conditioning?
We do indeed have air conditioning, but there’s a LOT of air in the room and it can be tricky to keep the space cool. We set up water stations at our shows, and you are permitted to bring your own empty water bottle to fill there so you can stay hydrated.

How do I get my McMenamins passport stamped?
Mission Theater stamps are only provided at the bar in the venue, and you must attend an event in order to receive one! If there’s no show or a show is sold out then you’re out of luck for that night, so plan ahead and pick a show from our fine selection of upcoming events! Another option is to wait for our occasional open houses or other free events, as we issue stamps for those events as well.

History

The location that serves as one of McMenamins favorite neighborhood theater pubs was the locus of great spiritual zeal beginning in the 1890s. That's when the Swedish Evangelical Mission established its church here....

From a church to a theater-pub to event space, the Mission's history ain't exactly saintly. Click here for more info!
